Mark Egloff, an employee in Ableton's logistics department, has developed the "APC Step-Sequencer" using Max for Live. The tool transforms an Akai APC40 or APC20 into a full-featured step sequencer for Ableton Live. Developed in collaboration with Shane Hazleton from Akai, the sequencer aims to provide the tactile feel of hardware drum sequencers. It allows users to create beats for hours without needing a keyboard or mouse, and is optimized for use with drum racks.
